In Memory
Forty-five years, gone in a flash, upsetting my notion of time and distance.
Time distant—full of memories. Time near—the year of suffering and passing on. What is left? The unbalance of being uncoupled.
Time feels…brittle now. Without your flexible presence to smooth the rough edges, your sheltered space when times were tough. Distance now is what I need, to start my life uncoupled.
I won’t say you are in a better place. Here is where you loved to be. In the garden, planting trees. Feeding and watching birds. Hiking the mountains. Long trips in the car.
You claimed each day with purpose, something to be lived in the best way possible.
I will say—though you were an independent spirit, you remained dependable for those who surrounded and loved you. You are missed—and will be missed by us—those who knew you and loved you.
